Prevailing winds extend those bands further inland than the raw distance suggests.
What that means for hardware is not theoretical. That is a four-fold difference driven purely by how far you are from breaking surf.
So a Sunshine Beach or Coolum frontage genuinely needs different specification from a Nambour or hinterland property — and quoting them the same way is how gates fail early.

There is also a counter-intuitive point worth knowing. **Sheltered surfaces that never get rain-washed corrode faster than exposed ones**, because wind-blown salt settles and nothing rinses it away. Hinges, the underside of rails and the inside of motor housings are exactly those surfaces.
Industry cleaning guidance quantifies it: rain-washed seaside surfaces need washing about once a year, while sheltered seaside surfaces with salt deposits need it **four to twelve times a year**.
And the part that matters commercially: **gate motor manufacturers exclude corrosion from warranty entirely.** One brand voids cover for damage from atmospheric conditions including corrosion of metal parts, insect infestation and power surges. Near the coast, specification and washdown are your only real protection.
